Suggested Framing Procedures
Suitable Framing
All work must be suitably framed, backed (when required), equipped with strap hangers or D-hangers, and braided or coated picture wire. Frames are to be free of obvious defects, surface scratches, chips, gouges, wide openings at corner, etc. Unframed stretched canvas pieces must have finished edges. The design on the front continues on the edges and finished sides.
Not Allowed:
Improperly or damaged framed work will not be accepted for exhibiting.
The LaGrange Art League Framing Department has framing hardware, spacers, and wires for sale at a nominal charge. They also provide framing services for your artwork needs.
Wood frames: Strap hangers or D-hangers are used on wood. They come in various sizes and the package will indicate how much weight they will hold. Picture wire also comes in different diameters. Please use the recommended hardware for the weight and size of your artwork. (wiring examples on next page)
Metal frames: Eyelet clips are usually supplied by the frame manufacturer. The principle of wiring the back is the same.
